Pornic Bakery & Cafe
A moment to unwind in the city.
Steps from the east exit of JR Ryogoku Station on Yokozuna Yokocho, Pornic Bakery & Cafe offers its signature Yokozuna Anpan, oversized paw-shaped pastries, and savory baked goods alongside fresh coffee.
01 / ABOUT THE PLACE
Just outside the east exit of Ryogoku Station along Yokozuna Yokocho, Pornic Bakery & Cafe fills its display cases with baked goods that reflect the neighborhood's sumo heritage. Drawing immediate attention is the signature Yokozuna Anpan, branded with a likeness of a sumo wrestler. Inside the soft bun is a generous filling of coarse sweet red bean paste and whipped cream, making it a familiar morning treat or afternoon snack. Another fixture is the paw-shaped pastry, Nikukyu Pan, roughly the size of a palm, featuring tender, chewy dough filled with lightly sweetened custard cream.
Beyond sweet buns, the bakery stocks a broad selection of savory, meal-ready options. Choices such as hot dogs loaded with cheese, ham and cheese sandwiches, fried minced-meat cutlet burgers, crisp curry bread, and ham and tomato bagels provide plenty of satisfying decisions for the tray. Selected breads can often be warmed up to enjoy on-site alongside hot drinks like freshly brewed coffee, cafe au lait, or onion soup.
The shop opens at 7:00 on weekdays and 8:00 on Saturdays, serving as a practical stop before work or a starting point for exploring Ryogoku. Counter and table seating make up an eat-in space that suits both takeout runs and relaxed breakfasts. Payments are accepted in cash and via PayPay.
